Dogsare known for having a nibble on things they aren’t meant to touch on the walks and therefore require their owners to stay vigilant. Porridge didn’t just sample but gobbled the whole pot of McDonald's Sweet n’ Sour sauce it found on the ground. The poor petended up being placed under anaesthesia with the endoscope in its stomach.

Sweet n’ Sour dip could be fatal for a dog
A seven-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier named Porridge helped himself to the McDonald's Sweet n’ Sour dip on a walk before his owner John Griffin could stop him. After the mischievous pup became unwell, he was taken to Vets4Pets Barnsley Hospital for emergency treatment.
The dedicated team at the 24-hour hospital first tried to remove the packaging by inducing vomiting, but after a combination of sausages, biscuits and treats, there was no sign of the sauce pot.
They then made the decision to perform an endoscopy, a minimally invasive procedure which allows a vet to look into a pet’s stomach using a small flexible tube with a camera. Veterinary Surgeon, Dr Caroline Richards and Veterinary Nurse, Sally White, placed Porridge under anaesthesia and were able to insert the endoscope through his mouth, spot the pot, and use specialist tools to carefully remove it, without causing any internal damage.
Thankfully, it was a lucky escape for the curious dog, and it was able to return to his normal life immediately.
Richards said:
It’s incredibly lucky that Porridge’s owner spotted him eating the packaging, otherwise there could have been some serious internal damage if left untreated.
You won’t believe what dogs end up swallowing
Richards also added that the incident can be blamed on ‘a local litter bug’ as if not for the objects not properly binned, the pooch could have avoided his invasive treatment altogether.
She commented:
We hope his story shows how dangerous litter can be for pets and makes people think twice before dropping their rubbish.
According to Richards, this is far from the strangest item the veterinary team has seen a dog eat. From Christmas baubles to children’s toys, and even underwear, the list is endless.
