Despite being a handsome and loving dog, Flip has spent last seven year either left alone in the shelter and foster-home hopping, in wait for a loving forever home. No one stepped forward to adopt him. But to his carers’ relief, his wait is finally over.

The shelter became his home
The 7-year-old rescue dog Flip arrived at the Lake Humane Society in Ohio, US, as a puppy. The rescue suspected he had faced abuse in the first months of his life but rather than that they knew nothing about his history.
Immediately after the pup joined the charity, their dedicated staff started to look for a forever home for him. They knew that the pooch ‘has been through so much in his life’ and were seeking a calm, low-traffic home that would allow him to decompress and recover from his past traumas. Flip also seemed to prefer women to men, something that could stem from his past but posed extra challenges for his adoption.
But despite their best efforts, no potential adopter had come forward in a staggering 2000 days. Poor pup has spent most of his 7 years of life waiting for a forever home.
Despite having won the ‘Best Snoot Boops’ and ‘Biggest 65-Pound Couch Potato’ awards in his shelter, the pup remained homeless for what felt like an eternity.
A loving home at last
But despite the long wait, the shelter never gave up on Flip.
Jennifer Schorr heard about Flip on Facebook. Having recently lost her beloved German Shepherd to an illness, Schorr wasn't looking to adopt a new dog right away, People writes. But when she saw Flip, her heart melted.
Head over heels for the pooch’s sweet face, Schorr reached out to Lake Humane Society to ask about adopting Flip and made the 3-hour drive to the shelter to meet him.
She said:
They told me he might not warm up to me at first, but it was just the opposite. He came and sat next to me, and he even gave me kisses.
After this first adorable interaction where the deal was practically sealed with Flip’s tongue, Schorr had the dog visit her house in Pataskala, Ohio.
The pup didn’t wait too long to make himself comfortable but his new mama was happy to ‘go slow’ and let him adapt to his new home at his own speed.
Schorr hopes that Flip's story will inspire others to adopt their next pet, so they can experience the companionship that blossoms after you save a life.
She shared:
There are so many loving dogs that just need a chance to become your furry friend. It is never too late — Adopt!
