Trump’s latest decision comes only months after he denounced the act of trophy hunting calling the importation of such trophies as a ‘horror show’. This statement followed a controversial photo of his son Donald Trump Jr. In the photo, he is proudly posing, holding a knife and an elephant’s tail in his hand. Needless today it did not go down well in the public opinion.

2. A case by case basis

Earlier this month an official memo as published by a government agency confirming the lifting of the ban that was enforced by Obama. It will even allow the importation of pats of pachyderms of lions and blesboks (a type of antelope) hunted in six countries: Zimbabwwe, Zambia, Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana and Namibia.

Trump has once again tried to mitigate the inevitable public outcry by imposing that the measure would be applied on a “case-by-case basis; in accordance with the Endangered Species Act.
