It can get frustrating when planning an event or discussing an important issue in a group chat, but people are not contributing. WhatsApp is used by many, and there are often little tricks people don't think of such as easily blocking someone on the app. As with most internet-based apps, it is also best to be vigilant and wary of scams that go around.
Here's how to check with an iPhone
According to Techbout.com, the following steps should work well with iPhone devices to find out if your message in the group chat has been read or not.
- When you open your WhatsApp on your iPhone, tap on the Group Chat you are interested in.
- Once in the chat, tap and hold on your Sent Message. A menu will appear then you tap on the Info option
- On that screen, those who have read your message will be listed under 'Read By' section and those who have not read your message will be listed under 'Delivered to' section.
You could simply swipe left on the message, video or audio you sent in the group chat to go directly to the Info page where you can see who has accessed them.

Alternatively, if you use an Android device,
- Select the group chat you are interested in on the app by tapping on it
- On the next screen, tap and hold on your Sent Message > tap on 3-dots menu icon > tap on Info.
- The message info screen will display those who have read your 'Message' under 'Read by' section.
However, this hack does not work for those who have turned off Read Receipts in their settings. That’s the same feature that allows people to read messages without the two ticks turning blue.
