In Iowa, one couple had an awful dining experience in a restaurant when they went out one night. Makenzie and Steven Schultz went to a sushi restaurant for an anniversary dinner, but the service was incredibly slow. On Facebook, Makenzie said that it had taken the waiter 20 minutes to bring them water, 40 minutes for their appetizer and then more than an hour for their entrée.

Obviously, they were unhappy with the service and could have just left a very small tip to show this. But in fact, they left 100 dollars (about 80 pounds) for a meal that cost 66 dollars (around 50 pounds). The American woman posted a picture of the receipt on her Facebook page, explaining the reason for their generosity. The way they saw it, the service was awful because the waiter was overwhelmed. He had to take care of around twelve tables all on his own and he reminded them of their own youth when they had both worked in similar jobs in order to make ends meet. They wanted to give the waiter a bit of encouragement which really was a lovely gesture.
