A flight crew consisting of three female pilots have made history after landing a plane in a country where it’s illegal for them to drive. The trio from Brunei landed their Boeing 787 in Jeddah, in east Saudi Arabia, a country where only men are permitted to drive on the roads.

Royal Brunei Airlines flight BI 81 took off back in February 2016 from the country’s capital, Bandar Seri Begawan and touched down in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The flight crew consisted of Captain Sharifah Czarena Surainy Syed Hashim, Senior First Officer Dk Nadiah Pg Khashiem and Senior First Officer Sariana Nordin.
Their historical flight has since prompted changes to the societal norms of Saudi Arabia. At the end of last year, Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman decided to lift the ban on women driving in the country.
Another step towards equality of the genders that the world needs. Its women like these successful pilots that we need more of in the world to encourage the younger generations to enter male dominated careers like this.
