With the winter nearing and the cost of living still soaring in the UK, many supermarkets are doing their part in helping out the community. As per Asda’s latest announcement, the supermarket giant would also be contributing to such efforts by helping out some of the most vulnerable people in the country. Asda will be offering £1 cafe meal deals to those who are older than 60.

Asda’s £1 cafe meal deal
As per Asda’s announcement, the supermarket would be offering £1 ‘winter warmer’ soup, roll and unlimited tea or coffee under this initiative in their over 200 stores across the country.
According to their report, people aged 65 to 74 in the UK are £163 per month worse off this year compared to this time last year, and older people have clearly been disproportionately affected by the current inflation.
The announcement quoted Mohsin Issa, Asda’s Co-owner, who said,
We know that this winter is set to be incredibly hard for thousands of pensioners as they worry about how to keep themselves warm in the face of rising living costs and a fixed income.
The hotel meal deals would be running through the winter months from November to December.
Asda’s support for community groups
The current £1 hot meals are available for all people above 60 years of age.
Asda has also been running their ‘Kids eat for £1’ programme since summer where children aged 16 and under can access a hot or cold meal for just £1. In addition to this, Asda’s charity the Asda Foundation is providing funding worth £500k to support community groups.
The supermarket is also running a ‘Community Cuppa’ campaign in its cafes to create spaces for community groups, who may otherwise struggle to meet due to rising energy costs. These spaces will be available on weekdays in November and December from 2pm to 6pm, along with unlimited tea or coffee provided to all attendees.
