The body was found in Wyoming’s Bridger-Teton National Forest near where Youtubers Jenn and Kyle Bethune believed they had accidentally captured footage of Petito and Laundrie’s van on the 27th of August. After uncovering the video, the couple alerted the FBI.
FBI Denver special agent Charles Jones spoke to the press, revealing that Petito’s mother had been informed about the discovery: ‘On behalf of the FBI personnel, I'd like to extend my sincere and heartfelt condolences to Gabby's family.’
As every parent can imagine, this is an incredibly difficult time for the family. We ask that you all respect their privacy as they mourn the loss of their daughter.
The police continued to disclose that the cause of death was yet to be uncovered.
The search continues for Gabby Petito’s fiance Brian Laundrie
Gabby Petito and her fiance Brian Laundrie initially set off on a cross-country van trip from New York in early July, intending to spend the following months exploring the US national parks. However, on the 1st of September, Brian returned to his family home in Florida without his influencer partner, and Petito’s parents declared their daughter missing ten days later.
As the couple were travelling together, police declared 23-year-old Brian as a person of interest. However, he refused to cooperate with the advice of his lawyer. North Port Police Chief Todd Garrison stated:
The lack of information from Brian is hindering this investigation. The answers will eventually come out.
However, on Friday, Laundrie’s parents invited the police to their home, only to reveal that they hadn’t seen their son since Tuesday the 14th of September. Police are now searching for Brian Laundrie in the nearby Carlton Reserve, a 24,565-acre preserve near his family home.
The North Port Police released in a statement: ‘The North Port Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigations are currently searching for 23-yr-old Brian Laundrie of North Port.’
The attorney for the Laundrie family called FBI investigators Friday night, indicating the family would like to talk about the disappearance of their son. The family now claims that they have not seen Brian since Tuesday of this week.
The statement continued: ‘It is important to note that while Brian is a person of interest in Gabby's disappearance, he is not wanted for a crime. We are not currently working a crime investigation. We are now working a multiple missing person investigations.’
Gabby’s parents were understandably angered by the news of Brian’s disappearance, releasing in a statement through their lawyer that they believe the 23-year-old has gone into hiding:
All of Gabby's family want the world to know that Brian is not missing, he is hiding. Gabby is missing.
