His lesser-known source of income is book writing.
He published The Churchill Factor in 2014, which became a bestseller, and announced Shakespeare: The Riddle of Genius which wasdue to come out before he became a PM but remains undelivered despite the eye-watering £500,000 advance.
It is only natural that Boris Johnson joined other former PMs in a desire to cash in on the time at famous Downing Street address.
HarperCollins has already announced an upcoming ‘memoir like no other’ that is likely to earn Boris Johnson ‘north of £1 million’.
Readers can expect all the dark secrets of the government's handling of Covid-19 and Partygate revealed, but experts warn that former PM is unlikely to open up about his ‘colourful’ private life - something many may find disappointing.
Boris Johnson has agreed a lucrative memoir deal
Boris Johnson has just made headlines after it was announced that he signed a £1 million deal with Daily Mail. He has already started with his regular weekly column for the tabloid that reportedly used to be his staunchest supporter during his PM tenure.
Boris Johnson is no stranger to journalism and has previously worked as an editor in Spectator and a columnist in the Guardian but he has done other lucrative writing jobs too.
Earlier this year it has been revealed that the former PM agreed on a deal with HarperCollins about an upcoming book detailing his controversial 10 Downing Street residency.

What do we know about Boris Johnson’s upcoming £1 million memoir?
The book covering Boris Johnson’s years as Conservative leader and PM will be published by HarperCollins in the UK and the US. It so far has no title or launch date but is already described as a ‘prime ministerial memoir like no other’.
Publishing director Arabella Pike at William Collins, an imprint of HarperCollins UK said:
I look forward to working with Boris Johnson as he writes his account of his time in office during some of the most momentous events the United Kingdom has seen in recent times.
Boris Johnson’s PM tenure saw a string of scandals, from the amount of public money he spent on decorating his Downing Street flat to a bitter feud with Rishi Sunak and the Partygate probe.
Martin Redfern, executive director and literary agent at Northbank Talent, said:
I think it would be popular because of how controversial he is: people would read it even just out of curiosity.
Although readers can expect spicy political details, they are warned that Boris Johnson is not likely to ‘change the habit of a lifetime and divulge details of his colourful private life’, disclose how many children he actually has or go candid about his life with his wife Carrie who is currently expecting their third child.
