According to reports, Trump has claimed he will debate Harris, but under one condition, which Harris doesn’t want to meet. Indeed, the former President is trying to change the date of his original debate with Joe Biden and has requested a certain TV channel cover it, while Harris wants to maintain the scheduled date and wants a different TV channel for coverage.
Donald Trump and Kamala Harris can’t agree on debate details
As reported by CNN, Donald Trump, who once donated to Kamala Harris' prior campaign, has agreed to debate Kamala Harris if it happens on Fox News on September 4. The former President wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, that if Harris doesn’t agree to September 4, he ‘won’t see her at all’.
I’ll see her on September 4th or, I won’t see her at all.
Trump then doubled down while at a rally in Georgia, claiming they were going to debate on Fox if Harris ‘shows up’.
We’re doing one with Fox, if she shows up.
As per CNN, the former President adds that he doesn't believe Harris will come to the debate as she ‘can read a teleprompter’ but not have a debate. Kamala Harris has since hit back at Trump’s claims.
On social media, the Vice President explained that she will see her opponent on September 10, ‘like he agreed to’ and talked about how Trump’s ‘any time, any place’ is actually ‘one specific time, one specific safe space’.
Indeed, Kamala Harris, who has an impressive net worth, insisted that the debate take place on ABC, which was the originally agreed upon TV channel, while Biden was running the presidential race, as per The Guardian.
One reason why Trump does not want to go on ABC News specifically for the debate is because he has filed a defamation suit against the channel and host of ABC's This Week, George Stephanopoulos in March. He said:
I am in litigation against ABC Network and George Slopadopoulos, thereby creating a conflict of interest.
Donald Trump and Kamala Harris verbally attack each other
Verbally attacking one’s opponent seems to be a key component in presidential campaigns. Indeed, as many know, Donald Trump is rather ruthless during his campaigns. As per CNN, Trump has claimed that Harris doesn't have the ‘mental capacity’ to debate him.
Trump has also claimed he doesn’t need to debate as ‘everybody knows me’.
I mean, right now I say, ‘Why should I do a debate?’ I’m leading in the polls, and everybody knows her. Everybody knows me.
On the other hand, Kamala Harris has claimed that Donald Trump is ‘scared’, which coincides with what the former President’s niece, Mary, has said. As per The Independent, Harris said that Trump was ‘running scared’ after he had backed out of the debate on ABC News.
In a statement on X from Kamala HQ, they said:
Donald Trump is running scared and trying to back out of the debate he already agreed to and running straight to Fox News to bail him out.
Adding:
Mr. Anytime, anywhere, anyplace should have no problem with that unless he’s too scared to show up on the 10th.
