The police revealed that Eliza and Henrietta are part of a set of triplets and are originally from Hungary. Per Mirror, the two sisters had arrived in the UK six years prior.
Speaking about the women’s lives before their disappearance, Superintendent David Howieson explained that nothing suspicious had been found. He said:
Everything suggests that Eliza and Henrietta were well settled, having been here many years.
They were in secure and happy employment, they had a social life and friends here, and this is totally out of character, both in terms of the police enquiry and from what friends and family have said.
It's been three weeks and they have still not been found, but Police Scotland is not ending their efforts to locate them.
Eliza and Henrietta Huszti disappeared on January 7
As mentioned above, Eliza and Henrietta Huszti disappeared on January 7. The sisters were last seen on CCTV in the city's Market Street at Victoria Bridge at about 2.12 am.
As per Sky News, Eliza and Henrietta were spotted crossing the bridge, turning right onto a footpath along the River Dee, and heading toward the Aberdeen Boat Club.
At the time of their disappearance, the sisters had been walking in sub-zero temperatures, and the path along the river was overgrown with bushes. It would likely have been covered in ice, making the walk rather dangerous.
According to reports, the women had previously been seen visiting the bridge 12 hours before they disappeared. The CCTV footage shows they were there for around five minutes but didn’t engage with anyone.
Moreover, as reported by Sky News, the sisters had allegedly sent a text to their landlady the morning before their disappearance. They had indicated they would not be returning to their flat. According to Mirror, it was Eliza and Henrietta’s landlady who reported the women as missing.
Superintendent David Howieson explained:
There was an indication from the person from whom they rent a flat who had concerns that they left the flat and indicated they intended to move.
So inquiries were carried out at the flat, and the circumstances that were found led to concern around their whereabouts, which was then important to the police.
The message was reportedly sent from Henrietta’s mobile at 2.12 am on January 7, 2025. Shortly after the message was sent, the mobile was disconnected from the network and has not been active since.
According to Sky News, there has been no activity on either bank account since Eliza and Henrietta’s mysterious disappearance.
The search for Eliza and Henrietta Huszti continues
It has been over 20 days since Eliza and Henrietta disappeared. Nonetheless, Police Scotland has not given up. When speaking about the CCTV footage, Superintendent David Howieson claimed that their movements were ‘very out of character’ and they are ‘open-minded’ about the bigger picture involving the disappearance.
We’re trying to remain open-minded in terms of what the wider circumstances may have been. What we know is that the behaviour of the sisters in the morning on which they disappeared is very out of character.
Howieson added that the police are puzzled as to why the sisters left their home address.
We don’t really understand why they seem to have left their home address and walked to this area in a fairly direct line before the CCTV footage of them is exhausted.
Most recently, Police Scotland concluded their ‘extensive and detailed search’ of the River Dee and the Aberdeen Harbour. The search for the missing sisters has now widened to the coastal areas around the north and south of Aberdeen.
Previously, the police had claimed there was ‘no evidence’ of the sisters leaving the immediate area of the river. Moreover, the police have found nothing to suggest ‘suspicious circumstances or criminality’.
That being said, as per The Sun, people claimed to have heard screaming around the time the women disappeared. One local resident spoke with The Sun about the alleged scream:
Everyone is talking about this. It was pretty scary stuff. A woman screaming out in the darkness is going to raise some red flags.
But it’s not entirely clear what the noises were. No one has been able to establish whether or not they are definitely connected to the girls.
Eliza and Henrietta Huszti’s family open up about the disappearance
Amid the searches, Eliza and Henrietta’s family has released a statement through Police Scotland. They explained it was an ‘upsetting time’ for the family and all they want is for the sisters to be found.
This has been a very worrying and upsetting time for our family. We are really worried about Eliza and Henrietta, and all we want is for them to be found.
The sisters’ brother, Jozsef, revealed that the family was not aware of Eliza and Henrietta’s plans to move out of their flat. He explained that everything had seemed normal the last time they had spoken and they had not mentioned any plans to move.
They wrote a message to their landlady that they wanted to immediately end their tenancy agreement. We didn't have any information about that. So that's the strange thing, that the girls didn't tell us anything about that. They never mentioned any such plan.
