The war is nearly entering eight months of fighting, and Elon Musk has turned to Twitter multiple times to confirm the support he has been providing towards Ukraine and arguably about diffusing the situation withRussia.
Ukraine and Elon Musk
Elon Musk has been providing the Starlink satellite WIFI network for Ukraine, initially for free, until he turned publicly to say that unless the service would be paid by somebody it will stop.
However, quickly Musk did a u-turn by saying that Starlink will continue to be accessible by Ukrainian authorities.
Recently, Musk has also issued a warning saying that Russia is more dangerous than ever and that they have nothing to lose anymore in the Ukraine War.
Over a tweet on Saturday, he claimed that Russia’s nukes would destroy the USA & Europe in less than 30 minutes, and vice-versa (hinting at the nuclear capabilities of the west), and that this would lead to World War III.
According to Fortune, Musk has been vocal about Ukraine. Albeit often to the dissatisfaction of the Ukraine side, who did not approve of his message for ceding Crimea permanently to Russia, and reorganising the referendums in the recently four annexed regions of Ukraine, but with international oversight.
‘Transmitting a message for Putin’
Politicoreports the view of Fiona Hill, a US Analyst seasoned on Russia and Vladimir Putin who says that Elon Musk is ‘transmitting a message for Putin’.
According to her, during a conference in Aspen in September, Elon Musk had discussed a scenario resulting from one of his tweets, saying a peaceful resolution would be tied to ceding Crimea and the region’s access to water.
Ms Hill says Crimea is completely dependent on Kherson and Zhaporizhzhia, which are two of the four recently annexed regions by Russia, yet she doubts Mr Musk would have known this information without being tipped off by Putin himself.
‘It’s unlikely Elon Musk knows about this himself. The reference to water is so specific that this clearly is a message from Putin.’
