Kane was subject to heavy challenge in the second half by Morteza Pouraliganji and looked to be in serious pain afterwards. The foot appeared to twist in awkwardly, however, the Three Lions captain stayed on the pitch until he was substituted off later on in the 75th minute, as per the Independent.
Ankle injury
The England striker has a history of ankle injuries and it is feared this could have aggravated an old wound. The scan should hopefully determine the gravity of the situation later on today. According to the Daily Mail:
Kane left the Khalifa Stadium on Monday night with light strapping on the ankle and with a slight limp.
However the 29 year-old forward managed to partake in an indoor recovery session on Tuesday, which is seen as positive news moving forward.
USA
England’s next game is on Friday against the USA and whilst it is hoped Kane will be ready, Callum Wilson will likely take his spot if he cannot make it.
England manager Gareth Southgate spoke in a press conference after the game against Iran and was keen to downplay the seriousness of the injury, as per The Independent:
I think Harry’s fine. I mean, it obviously looked like a bad tackle but he carried on in the game and we took him off, really, because we felt it was a moment we could do that.
England are now anxiously anticipating the results of the scan as they wait and see if they will have 2018 Golden Boot winner Kane in their side against their second group stage match this Friday.
