Kissinger made the comments during a special segment by CBS News dedicated to the former diplomat, who will turn 100-years-old on 27 May. Despite this, Kissinger is skeptical about US President Joe Biden running for President for a second term. He said:
It takes a certain capacity, physically. There's some advantages in maturity. There are dangers in exhaustion, and a limited capacity to work.
Peace talks by the end of 2023
On Sunday 7 May, in an interview with CBS News' Ted Koppel, Kissinger seemed confident that China could alter the course of the ongoing war. He said:
Now that China has entered the negotiation, it will come to a head, I think, by the end of the year. We will be talking about negotiating processes and even actual negotiations.
Kissinger also told Koppel that he thinks both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping would talk to him if he called them.
When asked by Koppel if he would visit Putin in Moscow if invited to do so, Kissinger said:
I would be inclined to do it, yes. But I would be an adviser, not an active person.

Potential war between US and China
Elsewhere in the interview, Kissinger warned again about the possibility of war breaking out between the US and China. He said this in light of the fact that China seems ready to invade Taiwan, and President Biden said that the US would defend Taiwan. Kissinger said:
So, we have a problem, which is that it could evolve into a general war between two high-tech countries. That's something that requires urgent attention.
From that point of view, it's a very dangerous period.
