The British Governmenthas been trying to assist struggling households during the cost-of-living crisiswith a £15 billion support package. There are three different schemes available offering one-off payments for eligible households, with more instalments in the coming months.

These are: the cost-of-living payment, the disability cost-of-living payment, and the pensioner payment (added to the winter fuel payment).
Cost-of-living payment
As reported by Express, the cost-of-living payment is worth £650 and is paid in two lump sum instalments.To be eligible, people must be claiming certain means-tested benefits.
Most would have already received the first £326 instalment of the payment. You can expect the second £324 instalment to be paid in the coming months. But when?
The exact dates are not yet known but according to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), here's the approximate timeframe of when people on the following benefits can expect to receive the second payment:
- Universal Credit - Autumn 2022
- Pension Credit - Autumn 2022
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) - Autumn 2022
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) - Autumn 2022
- Income Support - Autumn 2022
- Tax credits - Winter 2022
Disability cost-of-living payment and pensioner payment
Those who are eligible to receive the disability cost-of-living payment can expect their one-off £150 (in addition to the main cost-of-living payment if eligible) from 20 September 2022.
And finally, those who are eligible to receive the pensioner payment can expect their one-off £300, in addition to the winter fuel payment, from November 2022.
Truss' energy bills freeze
It comes as new British Prime Minister Liz Truss is set to unveil her cost of living support plan and announce an energy bills freeze today, Thursday 8 September. Simon Clarke, the Levelling Up Secretary, told SkyNews:
If we fail to act, if we don’t protect the economy against the shock of the size and scale that we are talking about then there is going to be enormous economic damage in any event.
According to The Telegraph, annual energy bills will be frozen both this winter and next at approximately £2,500 for the average household in a scheme which could wind up costing over £150 billion.
