Well-off roots, highly educated
Sol-ju is believed to come from a wealthy North Korean family and is believed to be a former singer of the ‘Unhasu Orchestra’ with which she has made overseas performances. She is also believed to have attained a PhD in science at Kim II-sung University, The Week reports.
Nevertheless, whatever Sol-ju set out to do in her life was squashed when she was allegedly forced into marriage with Kim Jong-un, the then heir to the throne of the communist state.
Restricted living
Kim's spouse, Sol-ju is believed to be living under extreme ‘traditional’ practices which she is subject to ever since her marriage.
First and foremost, her real identity has apparently been changed and her past wiped clean, far from public scrutiny, while she is also supposedly denied from making any family visits.
Sol-ju is allegedly denied from making any public appearances except for when she is accompanied by her husband. Nor is she allowed to talk to the press.
In all of her sightings, she has been wearing a conservative outfit and there is never a change in her hairstyle, and a report by the India Times suggests that these two aspects are not of her choosing.
Sol-ju is said to have been forced to have a pregnancy immediately after her alleged forced marriage, then to keep her pregnancies secretive, and to give birth to a son. She is believed to have three children with Jong-un.
Last but not least, she is apparently not allowed to leave North Korea unless accompanied by her husband. Reports suggest before her marriage, she was studying for a period in China and visited South Korea as a cheerleader, India Times reports.
