The UK has seen some extreme weather over the last few weeks, but for most areas things are looking brighter and - thankfully - drier. However, that is not the case for all areas across the UK. All the Met Office yellow warnings have been lifted but a new warning for rain has been issued for areas in western Scotland.

The warnings have been set for Tuesday 10 October, and the Met Office has stated that heavy rainfall will ‘bring a risk of some additional flooding and transport disruption’.
The effect of flooding over the weekend
Hours of persistent rain caused some major flooding over the weekend. In western Scotland, around 2,000 tonnes of debris fell onto the A83 road - the main access road for Argyll and the Inner Hebrides.
10 people who had been driving on the road during the worst of the weather had to be airlifted from their vehicles. The area around the Rest and Be Thankful, the highest stretch of the A83, saw about 160mm of rain in 36 hours - what it would usually see in a whole month.
Warmer weather in the south of the UK
Thankfully, the first few days of this week are not looking so bleak elsewhere in Britain. The sun will be making an appearance in the south of the UK and, though there will be some rainy spells in Northern Ireland and Scotland, it is expected to remain dry elsewhere. The yellow warning on Tuesday is issued for 6am to 9pm, but is not expected to run over into Wednesday.
Tom Morgan, a Met Office meteorologist, said the contrasting weather is the result of warm weather coming up from France meeting with cold weather coming from the north. The temperature contrast is what has led to the rain.
If your area is affected by flooding, remember to store your valuables high up, avoid driving and check on your neighbours. The Met Office has more advice on protecting your property that you can check out here.
