As the cost of living continues to rise, there is some respite for millions of people in the UK who are eligible for a £150 payment this week. The one-off payment will be made to people who already receive certain disability benefits. According to the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), the amount is to help persons with disability to offset some costs.

Additional payment
If you are already being paid a qualifying disability benefit, you will automatically receive the extra £150 from today, September 20. The government expects that the majority of beneficiaries should have received their payments in the next couple of weeks.
The plan to support disabled people on low income with this additional payment was announced in May and will be paid on top of other Cost of Living payments totally £650, £400 for all households to help with energy bills, and an extra £150 for properties in Council Tax bands A-D in England, the government said. Minister for Disabled People, Health and Work Chloe Smith said:
This £150 disability payment is on top of the £1,200 most low income benefit claimants will also receive and alongside wider support targeted at disabled people, including help with transport and prescription costs.
Fraud alert
Fraud experts have warned that people with disabilities who are eligible for these payments could be targeted by scammers, according to the Telegraph. The government’s communication on the payment modalities indicated that the money will be paid out automatically without any texts or emails asking you for personal details.
Meanwhile, UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Nadhim Zahawi said:
We know that rising prices faced by many countries around the world are a significant worry for many people here in the UK, especially those most vulnerable to additional costs.
