A new method she has developed has helped her to not lose her patience and to have better relationships with her son, as she explained in a Facebook post. “I wore 5 elastic wristbands from waking up until bedtime. My five wristbands represent every moment when I lose my patience or say something nasty’.
Whenever she gets angry, Shauna removes an elastic band from her wrist. To give herself the right to get it back she has to make a positive exchange with her son for each band that she loses. Whether it be a game, reading a story, a dance or a song. The goal is to have five elastic wristbands at the end of the day.
This tip has been praised by many parents and was first mentioned on the blog, The Reformed Idealist Mom. Kelly, editor of the blog, is also perfectly in agreement with using this technique. She said “I thought it was a stroke of luck and that I would fall back into my bad habits but months later, this trick still works wonders”.
