Traces of lead and formaldehyde bamboozle customers
The Sunreported yesterday that Winnie-the-Pooh’s cheeky grin contains levels of lead and formaldehyde that are over the permitted amount set by the EU regulatory rules.
When ingested, lead can induce digestive system issues, and – more seriously – difficulties in children’s learning and development.
Likewise, formaldehyde is no child’s play. It can cause hormonal imbalances along with headaches, dizziness, and nausea.
It is fair to say that people are – quite literally – bamboozled by the presence of these toxic chemicals in the kid’s dining ware. Nobody expected the Disney product to be so damaging.
What to do if you’ve purchased the plate
Primark has recalled Winnie, saying that they take customer safety ‘very seriously’ and are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of contamination.
If you have purchased this product, you should return it to any Primark store for a full refund as soon as possible. They will take it from you with or without a receipt. An enquiry form is available for those who cannot visit the shop in person.
Of course, discarding the iconic bear is the last thing Disney fans want to do, but this children’s item is not something to play around with. Instead, consider enhancing your wardrobe or home décor with some of this other Winnie-the-Pooh merchandise.
Let’s hope no more Disney characters are harmed in the making of future kitchenware, because, in the words of Winnie-the-Pooh himself:
