Pumpkin spice flavour is very popular in fall
Pumpkin spice has been a fall favourite for quite a while now. Many food companies have served pumpkin spice flavours in everything ranging from cookies and cakes to ramens and drinks. Perhaps the most famous of these is the Starbucks' Pumpkin Spice Latte.
According to Business Insider, it was in fact Starbucks' Pumpkin Spice Latte which kicked off the craze of pumpkin spice. They further call this fall trend of using pumpkin spice in the food industry ‘the pumpkin spice economy.’ As per Ad Age, ‘the pumpkin spice complex’ is worth $500 million annually.
So even though pumpkin spice remains a divisive flavour, with people either loving it or hating it, it looks like it will continue to maintain its place as an iconic fall fixture.
Many more pumpkin spice-themed food launches expected
Contrary to the name, pumpkin spice does not contain any pumpkin. Washington Post’s homemade pumpkin spice recipe contains cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves and cardamom. It is a heady mixture guaranteed to bring cosiness to the fall weather.
With many companies launching fall themed products earlier and earlier in the year, it would be interesting to see what other pumpkin spice foods we get to see next.
