Dumped and ran
A mum cat and her three kittens in a plastic pet carrier were abandoned on the RSPCA centre’s driveway in Coventry, England. According to the rescue staff, a man hid from them, dropped his distressed pets while they weren’t watching, and ran away.
Charity’s deputy manager Dave Budd said:
Despite our reception being open at this time, a man appeared to hide until a member of staff walked away from the area and then ran away after dropping the carrier.
There was no room in the cattery, and the team had to go beyond their limits to accommodate this feline family's needs.
Adorable cat family
The cats were all covered in fleas. The mum, who has been named Trinity, was underweight. But as they received much-needed attention and vet care, they are now recovering from their ordeal. Trinity is feeding well, and the rescue staff feel ‘she’s starting to perk up’.
Sadly, one of the little kittens passed away. The other two, Madison and Navey, are thriving.
Dave Budd said:
She adores the kittens and rarely lets them roam far from her. Madison and Navey are doing well and, although they’re nervous about people, they’re coming around slowly.
The situation is worse than ever
This latest act of animal cruelty comes as the RSPCA’s centres across England and Wales are overwhelmed. The cost of living crisis is expected to make the situation even worse.
New figures released by the charity show the number of abandoned animals increased by 24% in the first part of 2022.
Dave Budd added:
Please don’t abandon animals on our doorstep; speak to us if you are in need and we will try our best to assist you.
