Since Saturday 16 September, Russell Brand has been at the centre of a sexual assault scandal. A journalistic collaboration between Sunday Times, The Times and Channel 4 Dispatches has given a voice to 4 women who allege they were raped, assaulted and sexually assaulted by the presenter.

Since then, Brand continues to vehemently deny the allegations. Now on 26 September, it has been revealed in a statement given by MET police that they will investigate ‘non-recent’ allegations after receiving a ‘number of allegations of sexual offences’.

Though the accusations against him are very serious, Brand continues to enjoy support.

Russell Brand investigated by MET police

The Russell Brand scandal has now been going on for 10 days and more revelations continue to come out. After the first wave of allegations carried by the Channel 4 documentary Russell Brand: In Plain Sight: Dispatches, there are now more women across the UK that have come forward.

Det Supt Andy Furphy who works at the Met's Central Specialist Crime Command, on 25 September, said:

We continue to encourage anyone who believes they may have been a victim of a sexual offence, no matter how long ago it was, to contact us.

It now appears that the time of the alleged crimes will not matter and that Russell Brand will be investigated for actions that took place throughout his entire career.

Russell Brand gets support

Since the very beginning of this scandal Russell Brand has strongly denied the accusations. In a video shared on X on 16 September he said:

Amidst this litany of astonishing attack are some very serious allegations that I absolutely refute.

Adding:

(at the time of these allegations) I was very promiscuous and during that time of promiscuity the relationships I had were absolutely always consensual.

Under this video and after the revelations made by the documentary, Brand received a wave of support. Some comments say:

They do not like truth speakers.
They tried to do this to @joerogan it did not work, it will not work here either. #StayFree
If the crazy left can't stop the truth from coming out on X, they'll stop those speaking the truth

While these comments come from the general public, Brand also received support from people in the media. Elon Musk responded to Brand’s 16 September video saying

Of course. They don’t like competition.

Musk here refers to the ‘mainstream media’. Brand was supported by GB News presenter Dan Wootton.

A week later, on 22 September, Russell Brand released a new video on X in which he thanked his viewers for their support.

It’s been an extraordinary and distressing week and I thank you very much for your support and for questioning the information that you’ve been presented with.

Brand also addressed the fact that the UK government has had a say in the monetisation of his content. Under the three-minute-long video, support continues to pour in.

If you stand with Russell Brand, I want to follow you! 🫶🏻
It’s sad to watch western civilization fall to fascism & authoritarianism in live time. When govt. & corporations & globalist elites can coordinate & shut down speech, we are no longer free. Thank God for Heros like Chris & Elon who are standing up for what freedom we have left
Never bend the knee to the radical left
Welcome back & we stand with you. We know what they’re doing. Their games are old.

On GB News on 25 September, after the MET announced they would investigate claims against Brand regardless of their date, the former presenter was once again defended.

At of now, there has been no arrest and Brand hasn’t been charged of any criminal activities. Only time will tell us what will unfold in this case.
