Russian state TV claims US and Europe 'started' war
A video the discussion was translated and published on Twitter and YouTube on Saturday 4 March by journalist Julia Davis, who runs the Russian Media Monitor project.
During the discussion, Solovyov warned that 'the conflict will indeed come home, to the United States and Europe who have started it'. He went on to accuse the US and Europe of 'having destroyed an untold number of countries, having started an untold number of wars of aggression'. Despite this, Solovyov claimed that the US and Europe are now suddenly 'pretending to be peacemakers'. He added:
But they still slip up and say what’s at the core of it all, the question of America’s greatness.
The TV anchor emphasised that Russians should understand 'guys we are facing off against NATO. This is a big, difficult war. The sooner we realise it, the better'. He then claimed that 'in this war, most of humanity says it sympathises with us'. Solovyov explained:
It was apparent at the G20 Foreign Ministers’ meeting, China, India, the Global South, Latin America, South America, they sympathise with us. So we should continue being proactive, both diplomatically and internally within the country.
He continued:
This isn’t the first time in our history, our generation has to carry out a historic mission to again kick the butts of Europe, the collective West, and Americans who have joined their ranks, who think too highly of themselves.
We should very clearly define that for anything being done against our strategic forces, we will blame not only the Ukrainian Nazis, but also their American owners, with all the consequences arising from that.

Russia laying blame for the war on the US
The Russian notion that 'America's greatness' is to blame for the war is not a new one. In an interview with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, which wasaired on Russian state TV channel RT on 2 February, Lavrov declared that 'American exceptionalism' is the 'main reason' for the war.
According to Foreign Policy, American exceptionalism 'presumes that America’s values, political system, and history are unique and worthy of universal admiration'.
Lavrov added that the US believes they must implement this 'exceptionalism' otherwise 'the world will end up in chaos'.
