On Tuesday 2nd January, Kurdish forces arrested French jihadist Emilie König. With her, other women were found with one of them requesting that Emmanuel Macron grant them repatriation in France.

1. A letter to the president: Mother of 2 children aged 2 and 9, König joined ISIS in 2014. While Syria and Iraq see their cities and towns liberated from Jihadists, Kurdish forces arrested a group of women including König and a 22 year old young mother. The latter has now written a letter to Emmanuel Macron in which she denounced the ‘inadmissible’ conditions of her detention. ‘We are asking you to repatriate us, we are ready to own up to what we have done, please think of the innocent children’ she wrote to the president.

2. Jihadists return to France: The French government announced that it would treat the files of French jihadists detained abroad on a ‘case by case’ basis. ‘It is impossible to know on what criteria this case by case repatriation will be done... What they did was our business; its France’s business’ said the young woman’s lawyer. The issue of repatriation of the jihadists remains a government matter'.
