‘Please help me’
Daisy was rescued from her abuser’s house after RSPCA inspector Lisa Lupson attended an address in Merseyside, England and found the puppy in horrendous condition.
The dog was struggling to walk and instead 'dragged her back end'.
Her left ear was swollen and hanging, with a large scab on the inner flap. There were also bald patches on her head and neck area.
Lisa said:
Daisy rested her head on the palm of my hand staring intently at me as I stroked her. It was like she was saying to me 'please help me' and I looked back at her thinking 'don't worry I won't let you down'.
A victim of multiple vicious attacks
Lisa was able to get Daisy signed over into the care of the RSPCA. The pooch was then taken to the animal hospital for urgent vet attention. Already then, the dog appeared happier without her owner.
Lisa was shocked at the extent of Daisy's injuries. The tests found a healing fracture on her right back leg, a hip fracture, three rib fractures on her left side and one on her right, believed to have been inflicted six weeks earlier. She also had a fractured jaw on both sides, which were not recent as they had started to heal.
All injuries were consistent with blunt force trauma caused at different times. Her owner was prosecuted and later admitted to inflicting these injuries on the animal.
New Daisy
After surgery and treatments, Daisy continued her journey back to health with a rehabilitation course.
She is now a different dog who loves nothing more than snuggling up on the sofa with her new owners Emma and Jeff, and their son Aaron. The family fell for the lively pup after they lost their previous dog Princess to a brain tumour.
Emma has been diagnosed with clinical depression and told how having Daisy helps her with the condition and makes her feel more positive. Her husband Jeff is also fighting throat cancer, so Daisy is also a good companion on their walks together.
Emma said:
We knew what Daisy had been through in the past but seeing how happy and loving she is now it is hard to believe the pain and suffering she endured.
Daisy never forgot her rescuer
Daisy trusted her angel rescuer RSPCA inspector Lisa Lupson in her darkest hour, and the pair formed a close bond.
Such was that bond that, more than a year later, when Lisa visited Daisy in her new home, the pooch remembered her saviour.
Lisa said:
Daisy is full of energy and love and when she saw me, she went into overdrive by excitedly running toward me and showering me with sloppy kisses. It was such a lovely welcome and a great way to see how the work we do does make such a huge difference.
