19 products are affected
According to the announcement, 19 types of dry shampoo aerosol products which have been produced before October 2021 are affected, CBS Newsreports.
The respective products are sold under different brand names, including ‘Dove, Nexxus, Suave, TIGI (Rockaholic and Bed Head), and TRESemmé’.
The complete list of products can be found on the FDA website.
Serious life-threatening conditions
Benzene is one of the most commonly produced chemicals in the US, and it is used across many industries, and widely found in small levels on certain drugs and detergents.
Scientists believe that exposure to benzene leads to serious life-threatening conditions including blood complications, leukemia, and blood cancer of the bone marrow, CBS News reports.
In a statement, Unilever said that the levels of benzene found in the recalled products would not cause a deterioration of health.
‘Daily exposure to benzene in the recalled products at the levels detected in testing would not be expected to cause adverse health consequences.’
Unilever has advised clients who have purchased the respective products to stop using them and has made available a link on their websiteto request a reimbursement.
