UK government: Growing dissatisfaction among citizens revealed by this trending hashtag

As protests keep growing in France after President Macron forced his reform on the National Assembly without a parliamentary vote, the hashtag #BeMoreFrench has appeared on Twitter in the UK.

The hashtag appeared quickly, as British people commented on videos showing French people being unbothered by the outside chaos. For example, this video of people enjoying their food at the restaurant as fires break outside popped up online.

Another video went viral, which shows a couple enjoying a glass of wine in front of a street on fire as protests rage on. Some users have called this a typical French reaction.

A complicated history

France and Britain share a complicated history, which could be summed up by the term 'frenemies'. A few years after Brexit, which saw the UK leave the European Union and say goodbye to the French, some British people are trying to follow the French example by using the hashtag #BeMoreFrench and demanding better treatment from their government.

The hashtag was used 35,000 times on March 25 only. As the UK faces an incredible cost of living crisis and strikes keep happening around the country, it seems some people want to use the situation in France to instigate a rebellion in Britain too. France is seen as an example of resistance and always demanding, not asking, for better living conditions.
