'Meat grinder'
Inozemtsevis the director of the Russian Centre for Post-Industrial Society Research and is based in Washington, D.C.
The prominent expert has describedPutin's invasion and the Ukraine war as a 'meat grinder', Daily Mail reports.
According to Inozemtsev, only the overthrowing of Putin will bring an end to the war:
I believe the only chance to alter the situation is some kind of a palace coup - once the elite truly understands that Putin is leading them into a dead end.
Inozemtsev, however, was not speaking on definitive terms, falling short on calling the likelihood or timeline of a coup, Metro reports:
But whether it will happen or not, or when is impossible to forecast.
The Russian people are 'inert'
Interestingly, theexpert also commented about the state of the Russian people, who he doubts would take the risk stop the war as they are unable to make any move in that regard:
[The Russian society] is totally inert and the Kremlin should not be expecting any problems, so far I don’t see any desire to stop the war.
Inozemtsev says the law is not on the side of the people, public protests are banned and even saying the word ‘war’ can get someone behind bars.
He also believes theUkraine war will be along one, and will last until at leastsummer next year (2023). According to him, Putin has the financial means to continue the battle for at least two more years:
Putin has great potential to finance the war. Reserves and the possibilities of borrowing in the Russian domestic market give him an infinite amount of money, and he will not have problems with the budget either this coming year or in 2024.
In parallel, the Ukrainian army is going to be able to withstand and repel Russian attacks, Inozemtsev has said:
As for the Ukrainian army, I am certain it is determined to repel Russian attacks. Ukraine is constantly re-arming itself with Western weapons and ammunition, and this process is developing quite steadily.
So I think this is the meat grinder situation which will go on for quite a long time.
