It was back in 2014 when the Malaysian Airlines passenger flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was tragically shot down over Eastern Ukrainekilling all 283 passengers aboard. Investigators have been searching since then to try and find who was responsible for the crash, with several sources suggesting it could be Russia and Vladimir Putin, as per the Daily Express.
Flight MH17
Plane MH17 was shot down on July 17, 2014, by a Russian-made missile, fired by pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine but Russia has constantly denied all allegations that they are responsible.
However, the ruling yesterday, January 25, by the Strasbourg-based European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) is a significant step for the Dutch and Ukrainian governments in their efforts to hold Russia legally accountable.
The decision gives the potential compensation orders in the future and could be another step towards justice for the victims, with Dutch Justice Minister Dilan Yesilgöz-Zegerius commenting, as per Al-Jazeera:
Very good news: the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights is another important step in finding the truth and justice for the victims and their relatives of flight #MH17

Further claims have been made about the tragic crash of flight MH17 in a book by Florence De Changy, a foreign correspondent for the French publication Le Monde.
In her book, The Disappearing Act: The Impossible Case of MH370, she investigates the crash of another Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 four months earlier, which De Changy claims could have been shot down by the US.
De Changy goes on to claim that Putin could have given the order to shoot down MH17 to punish the US and gain favour with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
153 Chinese Citizens were killed when the MH370 flight crashed and De Changy claims the US Air Forces deliberately shot the plane down because it was carrying a shipment of ‘electronic equipment’, which the US did not want to reach China.
De Changy added that her source revealed that Putin told Xi Jinping after the crash of MH370, as per The Sun:
What happened is not acceptable. Leave it to me.
And then four months later flight MH17 went missing from Radar as it was shot down over Eastern Ukraine. It also transpired that at the same it happened, America was conducting two military search and rescue operations in the area of the South China Sea - Cobra Gold and Cope Tiger - which De Changey claimed was very convenient for the US:
They completely cover up, it's not mentioned, weeks and months later I heard about this. So inconsistent. It would have been a god sent that these exercises were ongoing. You had all this military equipment, the purpose was to do emergency sea rescue, it adds to the cover-up.
