Another shivering message to the West
Just last week,Vladimir Putin hinted that he is poised to change Russia’s doctrine on the use of nuclear weapons, from one where it reacts to an attack by using nukes as a response, to a policy of striking first with nuclear weapons to eliminate a potential threat.
This week the tensions, which have been going on for months, continue to escalate. A new video shows Russian military units which deal with strategic defence loading a missile silo with the new ‘Yars’ rocket, Metro reports.
The 'Yars’ rocket can reach the US and the UK
Back in October, Putinpersonally supervised a test launch of a similar ‘Yars’ rocket, seen in the new video, to simulate a response to a potential nuclear attack by the West.
According to Mirror, the ‘Yars’ rocket has a range exceeding 7,500 miles (12,070 km) and could reach targets in the US or in the UK.
The ‘Yars’ rocket can carry a nuclear load 12 times bigger than the nuclear bomb which exploded in Hiroshima during WWII, New York Post reports.
The Metro report also suggests preparations are underway for additional showcasing of Russia’s nuclear capabilities to mark the annual Strategic Missile Forces Day on December 17.
