The claims are currently being investigated and a manhunt has been launched for the supposed hitman. Here’s everything we know so far.
An alleged plot to kill Vladimir Putin has been discovered
As reported by Mirror, the telegram channel VChK-OGPU revealed that someone has come forward with information concerning a plot to assassinate Vladimir Putin.
The alleged informant is 37-year-old Mikhail Yurchenko, who told the telegram channel - which boasts ties with close links to Moscow’s security agencies and law enforcement - that he met with an ‘agent’ at the karaoke club Honey, in Chekhov, near Moscow, which is known meetup place for security services operatives.
The New York Post reports that Yurchenko explained he had been told a ‘strange story’ with a stranger, with whom he’d had a long 'heart-to-heart’ about the ‘war and future life in Russia’.
Yurchenko then claimed that the stranger flashed a red service identification card and explained that he ‘had an assignment ‘to remove Vladimir Putin’’. The informant goes on to say that he didn’t argue with the stranger and quickly changed the subject.
A manhunt has been launched for the alleged assassin
According to the New York Post, Mikhail Yurchenko doesn’t remember the name of the alleged assassin and was not able to get a good look at the stranger’s ID card.
Yurchenko told the telegram channel that the conversation he’d had with the stranger had ‘haunted’ him and after a couple of days ‘of worrying’ he reported it to the police.
The telegram channel said, as per Mirror:
The special services have been searching for several days for the unknown person who planned to ‘remove’ Putin. Based on his tip, operatives went to study the situation in the Honey Club, where…you can often meet employees of various [secret] departments.
