Vladimir Putin: This is who might have really carried out his alleged assassination attempt

Russian President Vladimir Putin was allegedly the target of an assassination attempt earlier this week.

The Kremlin accused Ukraine of carrying out the 'planned terrorist act and an assassination attempt'. Others believe it was a 'false flag incident' carried out by Russia. However, now an ally of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes it was actually Putin's enemies within Russia.

David Arakhamia, the parliamentary leader of President Zelenskyy's party, said on his Telegram channel late on Wednesday 3 May that 'there are many versions about drones over the Kremlin'. He went on to say he 'will express my personal opinion based on a series of insiders'.

Zelenskyy ally's theory on assassination attempt

Arakhamia suggested the alleged drone attack on the Kremlin could have been carried out by Russian oligarchs unhappy about being sanctioned as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. He said:

The attack on the Kremlin was carried out on the collective order of Russian oligarchs who fell under sanctions because of the Putin regime. This is the first collective game of the 'offended club.' I hope not the last.

The Guardian cited Bloomberg's billionaires index when it reported that the richest Russian oligarchs lost nearly $95 billion in 2022 due to the sanctions imposed by Western countries in response to the war.

However, Arakhamia didn't offer any proof for his assessment.

Boris Bondarev, a former Russian diplomat who resigned due to the war in Ukraine, expressed his scepticism to Newsweek, describing Arakhamia's theory as a 'strange idea'.

Was it a 'false flag incident' or Ukraine?

Bondarev also expressed doubt that it was Russia who carried out a 'false flag incident'. He told Newsweek

It could be Ukraine or a false flag operation. However, if we consider false flag it is unclear what benefits [there] could be [for Russia] while negative consequences for Russia's image, etc. are obvious.

The ex-diplomat said he believes Ukraine being responsible for the alleged attack 'is the most probable explanation'. He said:

The drones could have been flown not necessarily from Ukraine, but by some Ukrainian people in Moscow, for example.

However, Zelenskyy denied such accusations, saying at a press conference on Wednesday that his forces were busy 'defending our villages and cities' and 'we do not have enough weapons even for this'. He added:

We don't attack Putin or Moscow. We fight on our territory.
