Who is this nemesis?
Hermitage Capital Management was one of the largest foreign portfolio investors in Russia. William Felix Browder, aka Bill Browder, was the CEO and co-founder of this firm. So why is he considered to be Putin's 'number one enemy'?
Browder was an activist who exposed corruption-ridden firms like Gazprom in Russia. He was keen to get rid of uber-wealthy businessmen. With the help of his lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, he uncovered the massive fraud system in the mid-90s. By, 2005 he was 'declared a threat to the national security' of Russia and was banished from the country, according to Ladbible. His lawyer, unfortunately, was sentenced to prison where he was 'tortured and killed on November 16, 2009, in Russian police custody', as reported by TIME Magazine.
Browder’s views on war
The American-British financer supports Ukraine and states that Russia didn’t realise the force with which the Ukrainian troops would retaliate. Browder stated to Ladbible:
The war has been a disaster for Putin; he completely misjudged how successfully the Ukrainians were going to fight and also how the West was going to support Ukraine
Browder mentioned that Putin's receding mental health plays a significant role in his decision-making. Putin has also been rumoured to be struggling with declining mental and physical health. He was allegedly diagnosed with thyroid cancer but recovered after undergoing treatment. He is also apparently dealing with psychosis.
