Volodymyr Zelensky: Here's the truth about the rumours he owns $5M mansion

Volodymyr Zelensky had a fascinating rise to power. Talented stand-up comedian, he was popular way beyond his native Ukraine and often made jokes about Russian politicians, including Vladimir Putin.

Zelensky produced and starred in the TV show Servant of the People where he played an ‘honest’ teacher who became a President by a streak of luck - following his anti-corruption rant having been uploaded online by his students.

Zelensky’s views resonated with ordinary Ukrainians who felt tired of ‘easily influenced’ and corrupt politicians. They made the comedian repeat his character’s destiny andwon him the top job.

It is only ironic that corruption is what Zelensky has been accused of by various social media accounts recently.

The latest ‘dig’ came as a photo of a luxury $5.5 million / £4.3 million-worth mansion with an infinity pool allegedly owned by the Ukrainian President.

Here is the truth about whether he has anything to do with that property.

Here is what Volodymyr Zelensky was accused of

Popular Twitter account Liz Churchill, whose handle describes them as a ‘conspiracy theorist,’ has recently posted an image of a luxury villa with an infinity pool, claiming it was owned by Volodymyr Zelensky.

The author wrote:

The U.S. just announced another $1.3 BILLION aid package to Ukraine. Reminder...here's a picture of Zelensky's home. Lol

The account that has 273,000 followers didn’t offer any proof for these allegations.

A follow-up message added:

Would it be too much to ask for him to write Thank-you cards to every broke person/family that helped him buy his Dream Home?

The tweet got spread very quickly racking up millions of views and thousands of likes.

But there was a fair share of criticism too. Here is why.

Here is the truth about the luxury villa allegedly owned by Zelensky

It seems, there is nothingTwitter users can’t figure out.

They were quick to point out that the image posted by Liz Churchill account was, in fact, of a house currently listed for sale on Green Acres - a French real estate website.

The 850 square metres Belle Epoque-style villa is located in Beausoleil, Côte-d'Azur and sells for $5.5 million / £4.3 million.

‘A few minutes from Monaco’, it has four bedrooms, each with a private bathroom and 'a beautiful infinity swimming pool.'

Diligent critics ridiculed the author of the allegations and debunked them.

Niels Groeneveld accused Liz Churchill account of lying, while Kate Levchuk, originally from Odesa, called it ‘such a clown’.

Twitter user Morgan Peterson wrote:

That house is for sale in Beausoleil, France. Not the residence of Zelensky.

Pekka Kallioniem added:

An account with almost 280 000 followers constantly spreads lies like this. 1,3 million views, over 10k retweets and 25,6k likes for a fake photo of ‘Zelensky's home.’

Zelensky may be facing a smear campaign

This is not the first time Zelensky is accused of corruption, although none of his critics were ever able to provide any proof.

Newsweek reported that Western media have debunked multiple claims that aid given to Kyiv to fight Russian aggression was used by the Ukrainian President to build an international property portfolio.

In February, someone published a social media post claiming that Zelensky had a $35 million / £27 million home in Florida and $1.2 billion / £933 million in an overseas bank account.

Meanwhile, Trump's NephewTwitter account wrote:

Zelensky owns 15 homes, and 3 private planes, and has a monthly income of 11 million dollars. Why is no one questioning where our AID is going?

Forbes found no evidence of these assets, while none of Florida's public records show that Ukrainian comedian-turned-politician owned a home there.

They estimate Zelensky’s real estate portfolio to be worth $4 million / £3.1 million and include two apartments he owns, two apartments he co-owns, five parking spaces and commercial property.
