'The war is making our relationship stronger'
The couple appeared on TalkTV’s Piers Morgan: Uncensored, which was recorded in Kyiv and aired on Wednesday 27 July at 8pm. Zelenskyy said to Olena, as reported by The Telegraph:
When you are talking, your opinion has priority. What I would say is I don’t have any other experience. I’ve got only one wife and I am happy. I have one wife, one love and one family. I never got any feeling there was anything wrong with us in or in our relationship. Or maybe do you feel unhappy with me sometimes?
He added:
The war is making our relationship stronger, that’s for sure.
Controversy surrounding a Vogue photoshoot
It comes as the couple posed for a digital cover story Portrait of Bravery: Ukraine's First Lady Olena Zelenskaby Vogue magazine, with the photos taken by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz. The magazine tweeted on Tuesday 26 July, as reported by the Washington Examiner:
For Vogue’s special digital cover story, Zelenska and her husband Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about life in wartime, their marriage and shared history, and their dreams for Ukraine’s future.
As the war in Ukraine enters a critical new phase, the country’s First Lady, Olena Zelenska, has become a key player — a frontline diplomat and the face of her nation’s emotional toll.
The photoshoot sparked backlash amongst social media users, with some questioning how they have the time to do a photoshoot in the midst of war, while others claim the photos glamourise the war.
However, others are praising the cover story for raising awareness about the war and being empowering:
