Russia has declared war on Ukraine
The war was announced this morning, February 24. Despite threats and sanctions from the West, Vladimir Putin went ahead and finally attacked multiple Ukrainian towns according to the BBC. In an unexpected speech, Putin, who has been Russia’s president since May 2000, called for the Ukrainian military to ‘throw down their weapons’.

As the violence has escalated, American President, Joe Biden has deemed the attack unjustified. In France, Emmanuel Macron held a conference with Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine’s President and summoned a council of defence and security at 9 AM this morning.

Ukrainian towns bombarded
This situation is more chaotic than words can describe. Explosions were heard in various towns, mere hours after war was declared. Kyiv, Odesa, Kramatorsk, Kharkiv are some of the affected.

Major traffic jams have formed as people are fleeing the Ukrainian capital. Empty streets show how scared the people are, either fleeing or hiding.
As of now, it is hard to determine a human count. Ukraine has confirmed to have killed ‘nearly 50 Russian occupants in the Lugansk region’.
