‘Season tickets’
The National Health Service has frozen the price of medication at £9.35 power item in England. This means if you need multiple prescriptions each month, you could be saving quite a bit at the end of the day. Some health experts say you can make savings of up to £340 if you are in receipt of multiple prescriptions, Daily Express writes. You can enjoy this benefit through the prescription payment certificate program.
If you know you'll have to pay for a lot of NHS prescriptions, it may be cheaper to buy a prescription prepayment certificate (PPC) – effectively a prescription "season ticket". A PPC covers all your NHS prescriptions, including NHS dental prescriptions, no matter how many items you need.
However, this certificate does not cover the cost of other health items, such as the provision of wigs and fabric supports, which are only provided through the hospital service, the regulator added.
How much savings can you make?
This depends on how much and how often you require your prescriptions. A breakdown from the NHS shows you can save as much as £340:
- 2 items each month – you can save £116.30 with a 12-month PPC
- 3 items each month – you can save £228.50 with a 12-month PPC
- 4 items each month – you can save £340.70 with a 12-month PPC
You can buy your PPC online on the NHS website.
