We’ve all been there. It’s just gone ten o’clock and your stomach is already rumbling while you’re sat in the office. If you want to be able to hold out until lunchtime, you have to eat breakfast. And you have to avoid making mistakes when you do!
Your stomach rumbling at work is unpleasant
When your stomach rumbles at work, it not only distracts you from your work, but it distracts your colleagues as well. A glass of water, a cup of coffee, they won’t help. You need a snack instead. It turns out your breakfast didn’t do much to see you through after all.
When you have breakfast in the morning, your sugar levels rise, but only briefly before they drop again. To make sure this doesn’t happen and so you can easily make it through to lunchtime, it’s important to eat the right breakfast!
It’s best to have some cereal with milk or wholegrain bread in the morning because these foods will provide you with long-term energy that is released slowly over the next few hours. But these foods also need to be wholesome, otherwise your cereal will just be full of sugar and you might as well just eat a pizza instead of cornflakes!
In general, you should be avoiding fatty foods such as sausages and eggs as well as sweets in the morning. If you consume too much fat, your body will be busy digesting it for half the day and you won’t even be able to think about work because you’ll be too tired!
You should have this for breakfast
The most important thing when it comes to breakfast is that you consume protein and carbohydrates. Fabian Krapf from the Institute for Occupational Health Services (IFBG) in Germany, told an online news source:
‘At night, your body is busy repairing itself so in the morning, your amino acid levels are low. If you then eat foods that contain protein, this will balance out again.’
