Health interviewed gastroenterologist Vijaya Rao, a professor of medicine at The University of Chicago School of Medicine, about why people get constipated during their vacation and how to resolve it.
According to him, the reason for stubborn poo during vacation due to change in routine and stress. He states,
A lot of times it's just the change in routine, coupled with the extra stress of traveling
Along with this, change in food habits, sleep schedules and the process of getting used to a new place could all contribute to vacation constipation.

How to prevent stubborn poo during vacations
Dr. Rao has a three-part advice in order for you to ensure that your bowels are unaffected by changes during vacations.
You should start consuming probiotics a few days before your trip. In fact, it is a great habit to inculcate in your day-to-day life as well. While on your trip, you can continue consuming probiotics such as yoghurt to aid digestion and clear bowels.
While travelling, stay hydrated since it helps to keep food moving though the digestive tract. Along with this, incorporate movements such as stretching and walking during your travel wherever possible.
Once you reach your destination, try to preserve as much of your daily routine as possible. Along with this, you should continue hydrating yourself properly, and incorporate fibre-rich food in your diet, which aids in healthy poo. Along with this, the doctor also advises people to ensure they get enough sleep during their travels.
