Mould in the house, especially in winter, can create disastrous living situation, that's bad for the body and for mental health.
As reported by Mirror, here's what experts advise about how to spot mould hiding in your house in your mattress.
Mould in winter
Winter is prime time for mould to thrive inside your home due to water condensation, and water vapour as cold air hits the window. Along with this, leaky roofs and pipes wreck havoc by creating a damp environment that's perfect for mould.
Even mattresses in your bed can get mouldy!This is probably one of the most dangerous places to get mould. Even if you spend a lot of time in bed, its still a spot that's easy to miss.
As per Mirror, mould needs as little as 24 hours after exposure to moisture, to grow. Not only is mould in your mattress difficult to clean, it can also be a health hazard.
Sleep expert Tom White, from Memory Foam Mattressinforms that 'mould in your bed can lead to respiratory issues, allergies, sleep disturbances and even neurological symptoms.'
Symptoms of mould in your house could include wheezing, skin rashes, cold or cough that won't go away, itchy or watery eyes, congestion, worsened allergies, or a persistent headache.
How to spot mould in your mattress
The expert also has advice on how to be proactive about spotting if there's mould growing in your mattress without you realising.
Check for visible signs of mould and/or musty and humid odours. Visual inspection of your mattress should be done at least once a month, and every time you change your bedding.
An anti-mould solution can be used to remove mould from mattress if you spot any. But afterwards, your mattress should be completely and thoroughly dried, since any moisture will attract more mould.
Along with this, ensure that your bedroom is well-ventilated, and use a dehumidifier if required.
The expert also advices you to not place your mattress directly on the floor. Additionally, avoid pushing up your bed against walls so that there is proper air circulation all around your bed.
