Why you shouldn't be plucking your ingrown hairs

As it turns out, ingrown hairs, especially for those of us who are prone to getting them, should instead be trimming them rather than plucking them at the root. The reason for this, according to Lee, is that by plucking them directly with tweezers, you might very well be increasing the chances of having them reappear in the exact same spot.

This, apparently, is most often the case for those who have a history of ingrown hairs. In the now-viral video, which has amassed more than five million views since first being posted, Dr. Lee mentions that if you are to pluck out the ingrown hair you should probably invest in a pair of tweezers that have a good enough grip to hold on to the hair.

For instance, applying warm compresses to soften the skin before exfoliating the area will very gently help the hair free itself. Try using natural exfoliantslikebrown sugar mixed with honey or coffee grounds to make sure you are keeping the ingredient list of the stuff you are applying onto your skin as clean and chemical-free as possible.

For a coffee grounds body scrub, all you will need is the following:

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup coffee grounds
  • 2 tbsp. hot water
  • 1 tbsp. coconut oil, warmed

Directions

  1. You will first mix the coffee grounds with some coconut oil to get the right consistency and have it adhere better to your skin.
  2. Next, you will gently rub that on the affected area before applying warm water to wash it off.
  3. Repeat the process one to two times a week until needed.
