This is creating a situation which is a lot more concerning for health care professionals as well as the economy. It is also affecting various other industries such as tourism and leisure in many different countries. In addition to panic the coronavirus is causing, the sharp rise in the sales of face masks has also resulted in a shortage practically everywhere.
This shortage means the product has become more expensive and that there is now a risk that those who actually needed them can’t get them. As a result, even the World Health Organisation has been asking that people don’t buy them indiscriminately and released the following statement.
The WHO advises rational use of medical masks to avoid unnecessary wastage of precious resources and mis-use of masks. Use a mask only if you have respiratory symptoms (coughing or sneezing).
So if you prefer to stay cautious and as safe as possible, even if you aren’t showing symptoms of the coronavirus, why not make your own face mask by following the steps in the video above, instead of just buying one. It's easier than you might think and way more cost-effective!
But above all, the most important thing is that you continue to follow thehygiene measures and guidelines set out by the WHO. Wash your hands regularly and don’t let yourself become hysterical or too panicked by the current situation.
