Smaller nipples are trending
When initially interviewed by The Independent in 2017, New York plastic surgeon Norman Rowe shared his concern about this new female complex:
My patients also want to wear transparent dresses, and this leads them to take a more critical look at their nipples.
According to him, this phenomenon stems from celebrities. They are often seen on the red carpet without any underwear and we can make out the shape of their nipples through their dresses. And it is this effect that young Americans want to reproduce.
Celebrities to blame?
The most affected are women under 25 years old. Influenced by their idols such as Rihanna, Emily Ratajkowski or Bella Hadid, they want to reduce the areola of their nipples and have nipples that stick out.
While the trend is quite present across the Atlantic, in the UK, the demand remains rather anecdotal and perhaps it's better if it stays that way.
