Fish pedicures have been a trend for the past few years. And what it is, is actually quite amusing. You place your feet inside a big tank filled with Garra rufa, also known as ‘doctor fish’ that live in fresh water. This species comes from the Middle East and is known for being really good at exfoliating the feet without hurting you because they don’t have any teeth. The small fish rush to eat the dead skin on the foot, thus providing a perfect exfoliation and leaving the skin incredibly soft. But watch out, this treatment that’s becoming more and more popular in salons can actually be quite dangerous. Even though it’s an original and useful experience, we advise you choose the salon carefully.

Firstly, you need to look for a salon that regularly changes the water in the fish tanks. This is very important to remember and if you see that the water in the tank is cloudy, get out. But also, and most importantly, it can be dangerous because of the fish themselves. Because if their mouths are in contact with your feet, remember that they have also been in contact with numerous other clients’ feet before you. And yes, even if they regularly change the water, they can’t change the fish for everyone who comes in. So, this isn’t completely hygienic, and they can also transmit all sorts of skin conditions.
