However, it is lesser know that chilli can also be dangerous to health. In fact, just earlier this month, a teenager died after trying TikTok's viral 'One Chip Challenge,' that involved eating one of the spiciest chips on the planet.
Now, as reported by New York Post, a Brazilian womanwent into a coma that lasted several days, after sniffing extremely spicy peppers.
Woman hospitalised due to peppers
Thais Medeiros, who is Brazilian and 25-years-old was cooking a meal with her boyfriend and his family in Anápolis in central Brazil. While prepping, she took a pickled goat pepper and rubbed it on her nose.
These chillies are popular in the region, but their spice level is no joke, with Scoville rating of 15,000 to 30,000.
Thais then fell ill with an itchy throat, and felt so bad that she had to be rushed to the hospital. The doctors discovered she had cerebral edema, also known as brain swelling, and they think the most likely reason is the peppers!
Doctors believe she might have an allergy to the chilli.

Cerebral edema is caused by the build-up of fluid in the brain. It can also stem from traumatic brain injuries, stroke, aneurysms, tumors, infections, or seizures.
Thais is still recovering from her condition, but with her having spent many days in coma, it is not clear whether she will suffer lasting health impact from the incident. As per the report, she has been left unable to speak or walk after the shocking occurance.
Her mother, who has been left shaken just wants her to get better. She is quoted by New York Post as saying,
The [other] daughters ask why she doesn’t come home, and I think about her all the time. When I go to make some food that she liked, I remember our moments together and it hurts too much.
