What is cash-candid dating?
When it comes to dating, due to the current cost of living crisis increasing financial anxiety, being transparent about your finances with a potential partner is apparently the new key to success.
This trend is more about being open and honest about how much you want/can spend on a date rather than disclosing income or how much money you have in savings. But having these conversations can ease the stress of finding oneself in an expensive venue only to be worrying about the bill all evening rather than enjoying the actual date!
Why is cash candid dating popular right now?
Many of us are rethinking how we spend our money and time given the state of the economy. Therefore, dating, with its notions of fancy restaurants and lavish gifts, might be considered off the menu for many.
However, instead, it has become clear that the key to overcoming financial anxiety whilst dating is simply by being open with each other about what we're comfortable spending.
Just as splitting the bill has become normalised, this year, talking about money seems to have been taken off the taboo list. According to research undertaken by dating-app Bumble (commissioned through YouGov), in the UK, 1 in 3 people (34%) aged 18-34 are now more likely to suggest a free date activity, and nearly half (42%) of Gen-Z and Millennials prefer more modest date venues than they did a year ago.
Cash candid dating tips:
With that in mind, why not try one of these free activities next date night?
- Find a free exhibition at a local art gallery
- Try the samples at a food market
- Scout out some live music
- Take a walk through a new neighbourhood
