Tinder introduces new block contacts feature
Tinder’s most recent update comes with a block contacts feature, which lets you weed out anyone from coming up on your Tinder feed and also prevents you from popping up on theirs. This means you don’t have to see or be seen by any exes, co-workers, rude matches or have those awkward encounters with old high-school classmates. Tinder revealed in a press release:
Whether it’s a former flame, a cousin, or a colleague, just about everyone has a personal connection they’d rather not run into when dipping their toe in the dating pool.
The dating appexplained that they decided to introduce the new feature after a survey showed an overwhelming 78% of users would be interested in blocking personal contacts.
How to block someone on Tinder
To use the block contacts feature, go to your profile settings, and you will be able to either upload your entire contacts list or manually input specific phone numbers.
For those concerned about uploading their full contacts list, Tinder says that it will only store the contacts you wish to block. Better yet, the blocked person won’t be notified at all. The feature will only work if the blocked person has a Tinder profile or starts one in the future with that same number.
Bernadette Morgan, group product manager, trust & safety at Tinder, revealed:
We may not be able to save you from awkward run-ins at the coffee shop, but we are giving you more control over your experience on Tinder. We’re rolling out Block Contacts as an additional resource empowering members with peace of mind by helping create a worry-free space for them to spark new connections.
Could this new feature make infidelity easier?
The new feature has been applauded by Tinder users everywhere, but one sharp person pointed out on Twitter that the app could make cheating a lot easier to get away with:
Bro Tinder lets you block contacts now ... so if you’re on there cheating you may just be able to get away with it and that part sucks.
If your partner was foolish enough to get their jollies outside of their relationship, they could very well block you and your besties from their feed.
Relationships should be based on trust and boundaries, and if your partner is the type to go fooling around, there’s really not much you can do to stop it. So, instead of getting caught up on the things you can’t control, focus on what you can. And, if your partner does cheat, just hope you find out sooner rather than later so you can block them on your Tinder feed.
