Here's why a first date at a funeral is better than McDonald's

We’ve all been on a first date, and whether it is successful or not, the location of your first date can play a big part. Here are the worst first date ideas according to a survey.

There is a worst first date than a funeral, and it’s not that surprising

Going on a first date can be daunting and sometimes it can be hard to pick a good location. Tombola conducted a survey where they asked 11,682 people what they thought were the worst locations for a wort date…some of them will surprise you!

Top 10 worst fist date locations

According to the survey, the top worst date location is the cinema with 2,391 people voting. This isn’t that surprising as it isn’t the ideal place to get to know your date as you have to be quiet to watch the film.

In second place comes McDonald’s, with 1,561 votes. This also isn’t surprising - but we’ll give more detail later…

Staying home and going around the parents' house was 3 and 4 respectively. Then surprisingly, going to a restaurant and a bar were number 5 and 6. This one is quite surprising as it is the most common option for a first date.

In places 7, 8 and 9 we have swimming, football and a funeral. Yes, that’s right, McDonald’s is a worse date idea than a funeral according to this survey. Finally, in number 10, we have a park date.

Why is McDonald’s a bad first date idea?

To go into more detail, Tombolatalked with Jessica Alderson, the CEO and co-founder of the dating app, So Syncd. She explained that those who chose McDonald’s as the worst first date believe it ‘isn’t a romantic date venue and can show a lack of effort.’

McDonald's has a reputation for being cheap and convenient, which gives the impression that someone doesn't care about impressing their date.

Moreover, it is considered worse than a restaurant as it is known to be cheap and the lighting and atmosphere aren’t the same and doesn’t promote intimacy:

The lighting is bright, it can be noisy, and there are often kids around.

All of these factors aren't conducive to a romantic atmosphere that enables you to feel a sense of intimacy.

While a funeral may not be your idea of a romantic date either, it could bring out a side to your date that you may not have seen in a different setting.
