Not everyone speaks openly about the things they do to themselves under the sheets. That doesn’t take away from the fact that many of us do, and most definitely should, pleasure ourselves. Masturbation is an act of love and self-care that needs to be normalized and practiced on a regular basis.

Masturbation study
Given that it’s still such a taboo topic in many places, many people do not know if the frequency at which they indulge themselves is too much or too little compared to other people. Lucky for us, adult toy company Womanizer looked into how many times both males and females masturbate in a week.
To celebrate World Equal Masturbation Day, which was on 23 June, the company decided to publish the results to their clinical study on masturbation. They based their research on over 22,000 participants across 15 different countries, divided their participants into cisgender men and women and categorized the findings accordingly.
Astonishing results
According to the brand’s press release, their findings show that men masturbate almost 2.8 times a week on average. For women, there are half as many solo sessions at 1.4 times a week!
According to Hypebae, the number of times women masturbated increased compared to last year’s findings. Furthermore, their study found that ‘the masturbation gap decreased’ between cisgender men and women from 62% to 47%. Head of sexual empowerment at Womanizer said, as quoted by the online platform:
Two years ago, Equal Masturbation Day was still at the beginning of September. The fact that this gap has now decreased by two months is a really positive development.
